OnePlus built its reputation on a narrow proposition: near-flagship silicon, unusually fast charging, and a high refresh-rate screen, at a price under the Samsung and Apple flagships. The company is now closely tied to Oppo — they share hardware platforms and software engineering — and OxygenOS, the OnePlus Android layer, has converged substantially with Oppo's ColorOS. If you last used a OnePlus phone several years ago, the software is not the one you remember.
The range is small, which makes it easy to read. The numbered flagship (OnePlus 13) is the main model. The R variant is a cost-reduced version of the same generation, usually with the previous year's flagship chipset and a simpler camera. The Nord line is the mid-range, numbered separately, and Nord CE models are the cheaper Nord variants. Open is the foldable.
Charging is the specification OnePlus consistently wins on paper. Recent flagships list 100 W wired charging against 25–45 W from Apple, Samsung, and Google. Paired with battery capacities that have grown past 6000 mAh, that is a genuine day-to-day difference rather than a benchmark curiosity: a ten-minute charge at a desk actually refills a useful amount. The trade-off is heat, and heat is what ages a lithium battery, so a phone that charges very fast every day is not being treated more gently than one that charges slowly.
Recent generations have also carried strong ingress ratings — IP68 and IP69 on the same model — where rivals list IP68 alone. IP69 covers high-pressure hot-water spray in the IEC standard. It is a real test result, not marketing, but it is also not permission to take the phone swimming, and liquid damage is commonly excluded from warranty regardless of rating.
Alert Slider, the physical mute switch OnePlus was known for, has come and gone between generations, so check the model rather than assuming.
The place OnePlus is weakest is the one that does not appear on a hardware table. Software update commitments are shorter than Samsung's and Google's flagship policies, and delivery has historically been slower. For a buyer keeping a phone two or three years that is irrelevant; for a buyer keeping it five, it is the main argument against, and it is worth weighing against the money the phone saves you at purchase.
